New York Comic Con (NYCC) starts today at the Javits Center and like every year, there is plenty to do and see. It is no secret that NYCC is an overwhelming experience that features panels, vendors, signings, food trucks, and more. Unfortunately, it is impossible to do everything even with a 4-day pass to the event. If you want to max out your time, pick out the “Must Do’s” on the schedule and make them your priority. To help with choosing some of those “Must Do’s” we here at Nerd Caster have our list of the top 5 panels we are most looking forward to and will share them with you.

5. Creepshow

Thursday 8:00 PM – 9:00 PM

Creepshow, the movies from the 80s, was one of the first horror films I saw and loved. It was a different type of movie in that it featured multiple short stories instead of one long narrative and didn’t focus on slashing or gore. The new season on Shudder even features some stories by authors I love like Stephen King, Joe Hill, Joe R. Lansdale, Josh Malerman. I am excited to see what stories these guys have in store. I can’t wait to find out, and hopefully, this panel gives us some insight.

4. Nickelodeon – “Are You Afraid of The Dark?”

Friday 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM

Another one that makes the list of nostalgia horror is Nick’s panel about the return of the old SNICK show “Are You Afraid of The Dark?” If you haven’t watched this show as a kid (or even as an adult) I strongly suggest binging those episodes however you can. When I heard this was returning, it caused immediate excitement then nervousness.

I am excited this show is coming but nervous that it won’t live up to the show I remember. The original series from the ’90s had a certain feel to it and was broadcast during a different time. Not sure how well the new show can adapt to these times of censorship and shows being “toned down” for children which wasn’t as much of a  problem in decades past. It would be great if the audience gets a screening of an episode to put my mind at ease. If not, I hope the panel can do so.

3. Netflix’s Big Mouth

Thursday 5:30 PM – 7:00 PM

Big Mouth is a great show that walks a fine line in our world of political correctness. The creators did an excellent job bringing the humor to a show that focuses on teenagers during puberty. It does not stray away from any subject during that time either which includes menstruation, sexual frustration, and general weirdness. While the show is very funny, it does bring up topics to help teens not feel alone during a very emotional time.

Nick Kroll and some others frome the cast will be in attendance so this is sure to be the most hilarious panel at the entire con if nothing else.

If you are like me and enjoy stand up comedy, crude humor, and/or just enjoy uncontrollable laughter in general, then check out Big Mouth on Netflix now and then head over to the panel.

2. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines Premier

Friday 7:45 PM – 9:45 PM

This is the first comic bookish entry on our list and it’s not even from Marvel. Wonder Woman: Bloodlines is an animated DC/WB movie and if there is one thing DC does right it is their animated movies/shows. I am sure this one will be will meet our expectations and we are looking forward to it.

With the new Wonder Woman ’84 movie coming out next year, it is great to see that she is getting a big role in the animated sector as well.

1. Harley Quinn Screening

Saturday 1:05PM – 1:30PM

This DC Universe series has been on my list since last NYCC when we got our first announcement of it. Harley Quinn is one of my favorite villains/anti-heroes in the DC Universe since her first appearance on the Batman: Animated series back in the ’90s. It is great she is now getting her own show.

The series appears to be more adult in nature with strong language and hopefully some more mature storylines. Getting to see the premiere early definitely tops our list.

Well, that does it to the Top 5 Panels we are looking forward too, but there does seem to be some stuff missing from this years event. I thought there would be panels for DC’s upcoming movies including Wonder Woman ’84, Suicide Squad 2, or Birds of Prey, but there isn’t. It would have been nice for NYCC to finally have a panel featuring some feature films.

NYCC this year seems to be featuring a lot more in the way of television series than being more comic centric in years past. Still, the event is something not to be missed as it is always a good time.
