E3 is upon us. The Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) starts next week at the Los Angelas Convention Center and is the biggest event that most hardcore gamers look forward to every year. The worlds biggest video game companies come together to hold press conferences about what new games, consoles, peripherals, etc. that will be coming out in the following year or so. This year is gearing up to be bringing (or so it looks) some stuff that gamers have been clamoring for a while.

What can we expect?

No one really knows what can be expected from E3, but there are some safe bets based on clues given out in the weeks or months leading up to the event.  For instance, Square Enix is hosting a symphonic concert dedicated to Final Fantasy VII just a few days before the event and the venue for it is only 15 minutes down the road from where E3 will be taking place. Not only does it look like Square will be dropping some big news, but Nintendo also looks to be gearing up for a solid conference as well. While It’s possible that Metroid Prime 4 could be announced, but we can almost be certain that Super Smash Brothers Ultimate DLC packs are on their way. Who will be in those packs is up for debate.

Future of E3

While E3 is still considered the biggest video gaming event of the year, it does appear to be slipping in numbers and losing some solid presenters.  Both Sony and EA will not be attending E3 this year and that’s a heavy loss. EA, however, will be hosting its own event on June 8th and 9th called EA Play at the Hollywood Palladium. It will be interesting to see how many more companies pull out year after year.

With E3 getting smaller, it might just be a matter of time before each company has their own events scattered throughout the year. Again, EA has its own event as does Blizzard, and it’s my speculation that Sony will start doing its own year after year as well. So if your a die hard fan and want to get to an E3 before it ceases to exist; it might be time to seriously think about grabbing a ticket for next year (or somehow get one for this year).
