Taika Waititi is confirmed to be directing and writing the next installment of the MCU’s Thor franchise according to hollywoodreporter.com. Thor 3: Ragnarok grossed over $854 Million worldwide and Waititi was the mastermind behind the film so it makes perfect sense to bring him back. Not only that but among fans, it was arguably the best Thor movie to date.

Waititi was in the works with Warner Brothers to adapt the anime Akira into a live-action film and was in the process of casting for the adaptation when the news broke about Thor 4.  Warner Brothers appear to be keeping Waititi on for the project, though it looks like it’s on the back burner for now and will resume production after Thor 4 completes.

Waititi is a busy guy. Not only is he known for his work on Thor 3: Ragnarok, but the New Zealand filmmaker also penned the initial screenplay for Disney’s Moana and has acted in some films as well. His most notable role is that of Korg in Thor 3 and Avengers: Endgame. Waititi will also be directing the upcoming Disney+ show The Mandalorian.

So far nothing further is known about the upcoming Thor movie, but it is rumored Chris Hemsworth will be reprising his role as the Thunder God. It is speculated more information will be announced at San Diego Comic Con which kicks off this Thursday, July 18th. While possible, I wouldn’t recommend getting your hopes up as Marvel will most likely be focusing on other upcoming titles in its MCU like the Black Widow Prequel, Black Panther Sequel, Doctor Strange 2, and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. If the latter is mentioned, fans may get an update on what Thor has been up to since hitching a ride with the Guardians at the conclusion of Avengers: ENDGAME.

We would love to see Tom Hiddleston also reprise his role as Loki, but what would you like to see in the next Thor movie? Let us know over on Facebook or Twitter.
