Halloween Kills premiered on October 15th 2021 and was a follow up to the Halloween film of 2018. It is the middle film of a trilogy that fits into the Halloween time line during the events of Halloween 1 and 2. The film stars Jamie Lee Curtis as Laurie Strode, Judy Greer as Karen Nelson, Anthony Michael Hall as Tommy Doyle, Kyle Richard’s as Lindsey Wallace. James Courtney and Nick Castle both appear as Michael Myers one out of costume and the other in costume. While these people star Nancy Stephens who was in three of the original franchises films stars as Nurse Marion Chambers who worked with Doctor Loomis in Halloween 1 and 2 and was listed as Loomis nurse in Halloween H2O.

This film picks up right where Halloween 1 left off! Myers is trapped in Laurie Strodes compound as Laurie and her daughter and grand daughter escape. We see the events pick up right where it all left off the fire department shows up, and unfortunately for them it would he their last call. Myers is found alive and barely burnt and the carnage of Halloween Kills begins!

We then get switched to Tommy Doyle and Lindsey Wallace who are clearly spending their time reliving that night in 1978. They’re in a bar and telling a story about the boogeyman and what happened to them during the events of the first movie. As viewers we get to see a new point of view on that night in 1978. Instead of the events of the hospital Myers was tracked down and taken into custody. I won’t spoil it, but it does essentially erase the franchise after part 2. With that being said I love the rebooted feel and giving credit to the originals.

I will say this one slasher film that really goes above and beyond with the kill scenes. I mean at this point Myers is in his 60s and he’s still a machine. He survived a fire and of course all of the punishment dished out to him in the previous film. The kill scenes in this one top that! I mean the group who make these films know how to make a slasher movie and make it good. I for one was impressed with Myers supposedly being more human and less supernatural like in the original franchise and how he made it all look easy.

Haddonfield is of course in a state unrest during the film. Myers is on the loose the other patients from Smithsgroves is on the loose and the town forms a Mob. They’re protecting the town where the police have failed. Unfortunately it doesn’t go to plan for them. I get the whole mob and trying to take Myers down but why do they have to chant! That was the worse part of the film for me is all the chanting and what not. We know you want to kill him but we also know there’s a third film maybe save that for the next film?

Myers and Strode aren’t related in this but she was traumatized from the events of the original franchise and like before Myers becomes her obsession. Laurie spent her entire life waiting for his return and this film will set up their final confrontation. At least in this trilogy because we have no clue how it will end.

Halloween 2018 and Halloween Kills are both great films. We have a trilogy that appears to be happening all over the course of the same night. I know if you have seen this film and enjoy it you are excited for that final film. I for one cannot wait to see it. This film was so good and really keeps you interested for that final movie. I just hope they do it right and bring Laurie and Michael’s story full circle. It may be the last time we get to see the characters on screen who knows and for fans of a series that has spanned nearly 5 decades we need closure to the Laurie and Michael story.

Final Thoughts:

Myers is a machine. He is making the police force, fire department and average Haddonfield citizens look horrible. He has probably had more victims over the course of two films than he had in all of the prior films combined. I also don’t count the zombie films as they are apart of their own separate universe. This new film forges its own spot in the mythos and really shows the brutality of Myers. He is hellbent on ending what he started and clearly doesn’t care who gets in his way. On the other hand you have Laurie Strode who is the same way. The way the film ended sets up that final show down. An ending I can’t spoil but is a great way to set up a third film. Laurie will be in the fight of her life again. Let’s just hope that this time “evil dies” and there’s a decent ending for the heroine.

Halloween Kills receives an 88% from me! Overall the film itself is one of the best horror/slasher films I’ve seen since it’s predecessor. Myers and Strodes story is far from done and now we have the fuel to Laurie’s fire!

Halloween Ends is the final film in the trilogy and is set to be released October 14th 2022!
