The Suicide Squad film released into theaters and in HBO Max on August 5th and 6th! The film had an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Idris Elba, John Cena, Margot Robbie, Joel Kinnaman and Viola Davis. We also had Sylvester Stallone voicing King Shark and a few others like Nathan Fillion, Sean Gunn, Michael Rooker, and David Dastmalchian who played Polka Dot Man.

Yeah thats a huge cast and I didn’t even mention Pete Davis, Daniela Melchior, Flula Borg, Jai Courtney or Peter Capaldi. I mean look at all of the cast! Don’t get me wrong a few of these names had cameo appearances but for the most part were awesome as their respective characters.

I first want to talk about John Cena. Yeah I know the wrestler turned actor which at this point is becoming a thing wrestlers seem to do. I don’t blame them acting is a good way to keep that pay check without the harm to your body. Anyways Cena plays Peace Maker a gun toting patriotic superhero. Who clearly in this film will do anything for patriotism. That even mean killing in the name of his country. He’s like a bad ass version of Captain America. Cena plays the role perfectly and is getting a series on HBOmax so don’t forget to check it out!

Next up the returning members from the first film. Robbie, Davis and Kinnaman and Courtney return for this film as their same characters. Unfortunately for Jai Courtney his return is limited, I won’t say what happens so watch the movie! Kinnaman Robbie and Davis however are around for almost the whole film and they honestly are better in this film than the previous. Harley has been great in everything so far but Flag and Waller are perfect in this movie!

The rest of the cast do great in there roles! Polka Dot Man and King Shark are the comedic relief while Idris Elbas Bloodsport is the “leader or 2nd in command” depending on how you look at it. In this Bloodsport is bad ass and gives kind of a breath of fresh air to Task force X. I hope he comes back for a second go at the character.

Anyways the story for this film was way better than the first film in my honest opinions. The only issue I have with it is the story feels like a Justice League level threat but there is never really a mention of them. Task force X handles the threat but not before facing some casualties and destroying a city. Sounds familiar? DC films are known for destruction.

The villain in this film is one of the Thinkers from DC comics. I won’t spoil the name but he plays a role in the story. He’s trying to release Starro to try and of course take over the world. Starro is the Justice League level threat that I am referring too. In any other version Task Force X wouldn’t even be included. The League would have been called. I do feel like though that Waller was maybe taking advantage of the “Darkseid” invasion to use Task Force X to get what she wanted.

The whole story involved destroying evidence to make it look like there was no involvement of the US government with the whole Starro story. It’s still unclear if tust information was destroyed or recovered. I am assuming since a few walked away without exploding they did their job to Wallers expectations.

Final Thought
I was just amazed by this film! The first one left more to be desired but when James Gunn steps up to direct he doesn’t disappoint. He brought in what I considered a star studded cast for a superhero film and really done a great job. He even got Sylvester Stallone who typically speaks out against these types of films to voice King Shark which is just perfect. I hope Gunn gets a chance at a follow up film it will be a great way to close out the character arcs that he started. This is one of the better DC films that have been released. I still hold Snyder Cut in high regard with Wonder Woman but this film is right there with them. DC needs to use this and Snyder Cut to move forward with the production of their films!
