The CW is getting ready to launch the new seasons of its Arrow-verse shows this October, but will this season be the decline of all of them? Arrow has already thrown in the towel and announced that it shortened 8th season will be its last. Arrow will come to its ultimate conclusion during the crossover event that will include Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, Flash, and Batwoman. The event which is called “Crisis on Infinite Earths” will also include cameos from people who portrayed DC characters on other television adaptations of superheroes including but not limited to Linda Carter of 1970’s Wonder Woman fame, Kevin Conroy from Batman: The Animated Series and Brandon Routh as Superman. The crossover will be a star-studded event that sure to bring in viewers but
what happens to the other shows now that its flagship series is done?
My guess is that Batwoman will try to take over as leader of the group and try to keep the rest of the series going strong. Unfortunately, with what has been shown, I am not confident that this show can hold up. It’s like they are rebooting Arrow but with Ruby Rose at the helm and playing Batwoman instead of a female arrow wielding vigilante. The shows appear to be very similar in the way they are constructed like Arrow was the template for this new upcoming series.
Batwoman looks to have a similar cast of characters like Arrow. A woman who seems to be like Moira Queen and a team of people who will be the team with each of them having a similar role as the Arrow team. Batwoman should have been a show about Batwoman on her own with only her father in an Oracle type role (similar to the comics). Using this Arrow template is going to get stale really fast.
I could be very wrong (and I hope I am) and Batwoman could be a really great series. Only time will tell, but the other Arrow-verse shows like Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl are starting to become very predictable, formulaic, and cringe-worthy. All these shows had great potential and were good at one time or another, but the story arcs, writing, and the overuse of plot devices (like time travel) are getting really old. It might be time for CW to start closing off the storylines and canceling the shows or at the very least shake things up with the next crossover event to keep people watching.
