DC once again is starting to work on bringing the caped crusader back to the big screen. Matt Reeves’ The Batman is in development and he has already replaced Ben Affleck with Robert Pattinson, which is pretty much all that’s set in stone at the moment. As for the storyline/arc, it is all still up for speculation.
According to cosmicbook, The Batman will loosely base its script off of the Tim Sale/Jeph Loeb arc “The Long Halloween”, which is arguably one of the best Batman stories ever. This makes perfect sense as it’s heavily rumored that the movie will feature at least six of Batman’s most famous villains and this aforementioned story included a lot of his foes.
If this rumor does come to light, it will be interesting to see as I have been clamoring for this story to come to the big screen or a straight to BluRay animated film. For those who don’t know, The Long Halloween storyline follows Batman as he uses his detective skills to hunt down a murderer who attacks on the holidays during the course of a year. It shows off Batman’s deductive reasoning and his intimidation tactics as he interrogates each one of his foes to find out which one is committing the crimes. If you haven’t read this comic series, I highly suggest it as it is what made me a Batman fanboy.
If DC does decide to go this route, all I can say is don’t fuck it up. They’ve had enough time, failures, and reboots to figure out how to do these movies correctly. Messing with The Long Halloween could put a nail in their coffin if it doesn’t walk that fine line of pleasing everyday moviegoers and comic fans alike.
