Recent rumors popping up around the internet appear to point towards a Justice Society of America movie over another Justice League film. Wegotthiscovered.com is reporting that a Doctor Fate movie may be in the early stages of coming to life. As many fans of DC Comics know, Doctor Fate is an original member of the Justice Society.
It is believed that Warner Brothers has a story fleshed out and that the Doctor Fate movie will be in part a time period piece but will also take place in the modern day. WB is looking to cast a middle-aged man in his 30s or 40s to play the mystical being. Other details are currently scarce on the project, but seeing this come to light would be a nice change from the overused Batman and Superman characters.
For those who do not know anything about Doctor Fate, he is a spirit that’s trapped inside of a helmet and posses whoever places the object over their head. The spirit in the helmet is of an old sorcerer who consumes the wearer producing Doctor Fate. Over the years Doctor Fate has been played by many different people with the original and most well-known wearer being Kent Nelson, an Egyptian archeologist.
If the Doctor Fate movie gets the green light, it might be the start of DC making a run toward a Justice Society of America movie. The Justice Society of America was originally formed by Flash, Green Lantern, Atom, Doctor Fate, Hawkman, Sandman, Spectre, and Hourman and known as the All-Star Squadron. The team fought in the golden age of comics around the World War 2 era.
Hopefully, DC realizes that Batman and Superman fatigue is real and start focusing on these lesser known characters and give them some well deserved time on the big screen. With focusing on lesser known characters, DC could easily create a new and unique universe for fans to follow.
If Doctor Fate does well in the box office, WB may want to bring other golden age superheroes out of the dark. All this would be a nice change over reusing the same characters time and time again. What would make this all better, is if they pulled from the DC Universe shows and used those same actors to portray their characters on screen, making the DC Universe completely tie in together.
