Jessica Jones returns to Netflix for its next and final season this June. When in June is still anyone’s guess but at least fans can rejoice in knowing an actual time frame has been announced rather than just “later this year”. After this season of Jessica Jones, Netflix’s Marvel Universe will be over. Netflix has already canceled all of its Marvel shows, which included Iron Fist, Luke Cage, DareDevil, Punisher, Jessica Jones and the team-up group of the heroes known as the Defenders.
As stated, Season 3 will mark the end of Jessica Jones’ journey on Netflix but could she and her fellow heroes appear on the Disney + streaming service later this year? Probably not. Fans should not get excited to see their favorite Netflix/Marvel heroes anytime soon as ScreenRant has stated Disney will not get the rights to any of the properties until 2020 and shouldn’t expect anything from the Defenders in that year at all.
Not much is known about Jessica Jones final season, but it can be expected or assumed that we may get to see the rise of Trish Stratus as Hellcat and the tensions between her and the main protagonist grow even further. At the end of Season 2 (Spoiler Alert), Trish killed Jessica’s mother and Jessica took the fall for it. Trish has also undergone some experimental surgery to try to give her superhuman powers, which Jessica did not agree with. The two will be at odds in this 3rd season and would make for some great tension building between the two until ultimately they have to work together to take on the big bad of the season, whoever that will be.
Again, nothing is really known on how this season will play out, but Jones’ is by far my favorite character in the Defenders and I can’t wait to see how it wraps up. I am only hoping that Disney brings all the Defenders back with the original cast and writers to continue these stories, as they are arguably just as good as the MCU movies.
