The Endgame is upon us. The Avengers have (Spoiler Alert) lost to Thanos and are now looking to rebuild and try again to bring back the rest of the team (and the universe). It is no secret that some of the characters won’t make it into the next phase of the MCU and the Internet loves to give their opinions on who that might be. Here at Nerd Caster, we decided to join in and give some of our theories on what is going to happen in Avengers: Endgame. More specifically we will be giving our theories on who will die and who will get the final blow on Thanos.
Theory 1: The Nebula Theory
Captain America Dies and Nebula kills Thanos.
Nebula makes the most sense to be the one to kill Thanos as she was made to suffer at his hands for years, to the point where she was disassembled and tortured as seen in Infinity War. She also lost her sister Gemora to the Titan and would most certainly love to get revenge. What makes this theory possible is that Nebula does actually kill Thanos in the comics and while she is a smaller part of the team in these movies, she is easily overlooked making this a great “gotcha” moment for fans.
How this plays out is anyone’s guess. Our simplest theory is that Steve Rogers tries to stop the snap and in doing so pays the ultimate price and dies. While Thanos is busy fighting off Cap Nebula sneaks behind Thanos and deals the final blow. Then we pan to Steve’s lifeless body lying next to the dead Titan. Did you get goosebumps? I did.
Theory 2: Loki Lives
Captain America dies and Loki deals the final blow to Thanos.
This theory would mean that Loki comes back to life, and with time travel that is perfectly plausible. What else makes this plausible is that Loki has faked his death before and above all is the Trickster God. Maybe he has one more trick up his sleeve.
What makes this theory less likely is that his show on the Disney+ streaming service appears to be about the god doing things throughout “history” according to ScreenRant.com. This all could be a way to throw the fans off though and is not actually going to be what the show is about. Disney is good at keeping things under wraps and this could be a “smoke and mirrors” excuse.
How does Loki accomplish taking out Thanos? Not exactly sure, but like Nebula, he could easily sneak behind Thanos or bend reality (like in Thor 2) to confuse the Titan allowing Loki to make the final hit. Loki had his entire planet believing he was Odin for a while and even made it look like he was having a good time while being imprisoned. This god has some powers that I don’t think we have seen the full potential of.
Out of all our theories, this is the one we would most like to see happen. Loki has turned himself around and is more of an antihero, what better way for Loki to look like he changed his maniacal ways than to take out the big bad himself. If this does go that way, we would like to see him come back as a villain again now that Thanos is out of the way.
Theory 3: Thor gets Revenge
Captain America dies and Thor thwarts the snap.
Thor could post the argument that he lost the most out anyone else on the team. Over the course of the past 11 years of MCU movies, he lost his father, Odin, his mother is gone, his sister hella is dead and even tried to kill him, and finally, he lost his brother (whom he started making amends with) and his home planet. Thor has to be pissed. If they change time, it makes sense that Thor would land Stormbreaker in the Titans head instead of his chest as Thanos told him to do in the last movie.
Situations on how Captain America Dies
We mentioned in every theory that Captain America would be the big death in the film. Here are some of the ways we think he may meet his ultimate end.
- Captain America sacrifices himself to the soul stone to bring back all the “dusty” heroes. He fights with Tony about who will take the plunge, but Steve either tricks Tony or reminds Tony he has a kid on the way and must stay alive to raise him. While Steve doesn’t know this information yet he may find out in the movie at some point. After Cap’s death, Tony retires and becomes the financial backer of the Avengers which will allow him to make cameos in future movies if he or Disney wanted.
- Captain America uses the gauntlet to bring all the heroes back who are “dead” (the un-snappening) and it kills him as he is not strong enough to wield it. This is also highly possible as it hurt Thanos to make the snap in the first place and it’s possible Steve won’t be able to survive that power. Tony ends up guilt-ridden and retires.
- Captain America sacrifices himself during the final battle by saving Tony’s life. Guess what? Tony feels guilty about it and retires. see a theme here?
Other Theories
Here are some other things we believe will happen in Endgame.
- Hawkeye ends up retiring again, this time for real as he lost his family once. He is also a possibility for a Disney+ show, but it will be about his time before the movies and more of an origin story.
- Black Widow continues on with the Avengers initiative but is a lesser part of the team by her own decision. She is getting her own movie and will probably not be seen in any others.
- Doctor Strange… No ideas
- Guardians of the Galaxy Squad will be reunited, we are not sure Gemora is going to make it out though. while she is confirmed for the next Guardians movie it could be in dream sequences of Peter Quill or flashbacks.
- Tony retires but stays involved financially to the team. This just helps for easy writing going forward.
- None of the deceased members remembers anything once revived. The members who avoided the snap will have to fill them in. This makes sense as Spider-Man Far From Home is to take place almost immediately after Endgame. Peter Parker in that trailer does not appear to upset, meaning, he probably doesn’t remember what happened due to a timeline change. This would also mean that most of the other characters don’t remember either and can continue on with their lives and only know about Captain America’s sacrifice because the other Avengers told them what happened. This theory is probably the darkest. Cap did everything to save everyone and no one can even remember what he did cause they don’t have any memory. This theory also helps that anyone can pick up the Shield and play Captain American in future movies as half the population doesn’t realize he is dead. Therefore anyone can say they are Cap.
Food for Thought
What if the world was happier after the snap? What if unemployment didn’t exist anymore? Pollution and crime is now at an all time low? There are plenty “What If” scenarios. Since the snap halved the universe, our planet and the people still living on it maybe healthier and more well off. What if, now that people have adjusted to the snap, do not want it undone?
Those are our theories and thoughts. They may not be the most popular ones and we are sure they have the lowest chance of coming true, but we think the Russo’s are going to pull some tricks out the bag. We believe some of those tricks may include some of our thoeries. what are some of yours? Share with us in the comments or on Nerd Casters Facebook page.
