Disney doesn’t appear to be slowing down with Star Wars movies and in fact, may be headed to light speed with it. The current Star Wars saga will end with Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker but Disney announced 3 more films are in the early stages. Nothing is known about the next 3 films except that they will be alternating release years with the James Cameron Avatar sequels.

Avatar is also slated with 4 more movies that have yet to get working titles and will be follow-ups of the series first film that was released back in December 2009.  The movie has most of its cast returning and filming for both Avatar 2 and 3 started back in August of 2017. Fans waiting for Avatar 2 will need to wait a little longer as it was pushed back until 2021 to coincide with the Star Wars schedule Disney has planned.

Fans will have to wait until 2021 for the first of the alternating movies with the current release dates as follows:

  • Avatar 2 – December 17, 2021
  • Star Wars Untitled 1 – December 16, 2022
  • Avatar 3 – December 22, 2023
  • Star Wars Untitled 2 – December 20, 2024
  • Avatar 4 – December 19, 2025
  • Star Wars Untitled 3 – December 18, 2026
  • Avatar 5 – December 17, 2027

Disney not only has plans to continue both series on the big screen but includes (or will include) them in its theme parks as well.  Fans of Avatar can visit Pandora World of Avatar at Disney’s the Animal Kingdom which opened in May of 2017. In both, California’s Disneyland and Hollywood Studios in Orlando Florida, fans of Star Wars will be getting a new themed land called Galaxy’s Edge later this year. Not only will Star Wars be on the big screen and in the parks, but Disney is releasing several different Star Wars themed series on its new streaming service later this year.

The parks, streaming service, and movie studios seem to be working well in tandem to keep fans interested and working to help immerse them in the worlds they love.
