CW and DC have finally decided that it’s time to do one of the most iconic storylines in live-action with their current line up on the CW network, Crisis on Infinite Earths. While it is something that most viewers have anticipated for quite some time let’s talk about how they have taken a couple of other iconic stories and kind of muddled them up.
First off, I am extremely excited for The Crisis on Infinite Earths event! I have been waiting for this since it was announced last year! The group at CW and DC are really trying to make this crossover epic and I believe that this will be their strongest yet!
Arrow started off the “Arrowverse” as it’s called now, and it is only fitting that with the Crisis coming that this show will end in its 8th season after a 10-episode run. Stephen Amell and company have done a great job for at least 6 seasons of the show. Like most, I believe seasons 3 and 4 were a letdown. However, Oliver Queen will be the front and center guy for the Crisis. He made a deal last season in the Else world’s crossover with the Monitor so that Barry and Kara’s lives would be saved. We don’t know a lot of the details from that deal yet, but what we can gather from the season 8 premiere of Arrow is that Oliver has agreed to work for the monitor.
The Flash, on the other hand, is a whole different ball game. Barry is foretold to sacrifice himself to save everyone. I mean that is the heroes’ way, right? Making the sacrifice play to save the day? Not to be that guy, but look at how Robert Downey Jr left the Iron Man role in Endgame. He not only saved the world but the entire universe. Barry has to make that decision with his whole heart and probably his whole team behind him. He can’t go into it with doubt because if he does, he won’t be able to do it.
Supergirl and Batwoman really haven’t shown much on their shows of how they’re going to be involved in the Crisis but so far, their shows have both been great! Batwoman really surprised me being as good as it is!
Anyways, let’s talk about a couple of the stories they have messed up. One being Flash Point. Yes, Barry runs through the speed force at the end of season 2 and changes everything. He ends up in an alternate timeline where he isn’t The Flash. Most of that is correct, however, instead of going with the story from the already adapted animated movie, Barry still has his speed. Of course, as the timeline started to settle in his powers begin to fade. He had stopped the Reverse Flash and set everything “normal” as his mom was alive through all of it, but unfortunately, he had to make the choice as heroes do and he had to use the Reverse Flash to correct the timeline. Some small things changed when the timeline was reset.
The other one that they really dropped the ball was Savitar season. Savitar was a speed god in the comic books. There was a book that came out a few years back with Barry Allen traveling back in time in a suit that was armored and high tech. His goal was to kill a version of his former self to repair the speed force. Season 3, of the Flash, muddled that up, but it ended well with Savitar being stopped.
Crisis on Infinite Earths, or Infinite Crisis, or a Crisis like event is used by DC comics to course-correct and change things. The Crisis storylines are long books and there are a lot of tie ins and crossovers. I believe that these guys here can do this show justice and do justice by the books at the same time. Of course, I will be bringing you a review of each and every episode of the event so stay tuned.
Lastly, I am a Smallville fan. I followed it its entire run from 2001 to 2010. I am super excited that the writers and producers and showrunners have decided to involve Tom Welling and Erica Durance from the 2001-2011 series to be in this crossover. Without them doing Smallville for a decade, none of these other shows would have ever taken off. I just hope that this time someone told Welling that he needs to be in the Red and Blue for at least one shot or one heroic save to kind of makeup for that let down in the finale of Smallville!
