With only 10 days left until Avengers: Endgame, I decided to watch Avengers: Infinity War in order to bring back the events of the last movie to the forefront of my brain. That being said, I am sure I will end up watching it one more time before the release of Endgame. While watching through this second time, the movie did have a bit of a different feel.

Avengers: Infinity War felt like multiple different movies rather than one full-feature film.  For Instance, some of the movie felt like it was a Guardians of the Galaxy movie with cross over characters. Let me explain, Thor shows up on the Guardians ship and the dialog between them felt very heavy as ripped from a Guardians movie rather than a Thor movie (an argument could be made using Thor: Ragnarok).  Another great example is on Titan.  When the Guardians meet up with Tony, Peter, and Strange, it still feels more like a Guardians movie.  Peter Quill is even responsible for them failing at removing the Infinity Gauntlet from Thanos, complete with comedic value.

Back on Earth, it feels more like an Avengers movie, but more so like Captain America: Civil war.  Which, let’s be honest, could have been Avengers 2.5. Captain America/Steve Rogers leads his team into Wakanda where they are joined by Bucky and Black Panther to take on the Children of Thanos. This is fine, but most of the scenes are with Captain America and a secondary character, making it Cap the main character and everyone else secondary.

It isn’t until Thor, Groot, and Rocket show up to help Cap that the audience gets the feels that this is an Avengers movie. Thor shows up smashing down and literally going all destructo on the invaders turning the momentum towards the Avengers. It gives the fans hope that Earth’s mightiest heroes may actually have a chance to pull out a win.  Thano’s obviously crushes that within a few minutes.

In the end, the first two Avengers films felt like a mash-up of heroes. The heroes in Infinity War were spread across the universe and never came together for a complete team up. Endgame will, no doubt, have the full cast on screen at the same time to take down the Titan, but leaves Infinity War all over the place. Don’t get me wrong, Infinity War is a great movie, with excellent writing, and filled with action, but really should have been considered Part 1 of a 2 part series rather than being billed as a “complete” movie.
