It appears that Disney/Marvel is pulling out all the stops to make sure Avengers: Endgame takes the Number 1 spot in box office sales. To do this though, the film appears to need a little bit of a push to get it past the iconic milestone. That “little push” was announced by Kevin Feige in an interview with Comicbook.com during a “Spider-Man: Far From Home” press junket. Feige announced that Avenger: Endgame Re-Release will contain additional footage originally cut from the movie.
This announcement will most likely produce the numbers needed to surpass James Cameron’s Avatar and take the top spot in all-time box office sales. The additional scenes will come at the end of the lengthy 3 hours 1-minute film and will most likely be in the form of a post credit scene. The hint that this is the case comes from an interview Mr. Feige had with ScreenRant, stating, “a few new things at the end of the movie.”
Even without the Avengers: Endgame Re-Release, Disney owns 4 out of the top 5 movies already in the category of “All-Time Box Office Sales.” Those movies include the previously mentioned Avatar, which Disney acquired in the FOX merger, Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame, Lucasfilm’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and Avengers: Infinity War. That leaves James Cameron’s Titanic film (in the number 3 spot) the only one Disney does not own the rights to.
The only question now is how quickly after this additional footage is added will it take to surpass Avatar. Seconds? Minutes? Hours? It won’t much longer before the final numbers are in and Marvel and its MCU makes box office history.
I know I will be throwing another $15 Disney’s way to catch this extra scene and making it my 3rd time watching the movie in theaters. Who else is going back to theaters to re-watch Endgame?
