Please note ***SPOILERS AHEAD***

The End of Jessica Jones has come.  The female detectives last season dropped on Netflix June 14th, 2019 and marked the end of the Netflix Marvel Universe, and adds the super strong Jessica Jones to the cancellation list with Luke Cage, DareDevil, Iron Fist, and the Punisher.

The third and final season of Jones was worth the wait. All the Marvel shows on Netflix were great in their own way and arguably the best superhero based television. The show was dark, suspenseful, had a great story, and just enough action without overdoing it and becoming eye rolling.

The season starts out exactly where Season 2 left off from. We begin from the point of view of Trish Walker, Jessica’s “sister,” entering the elevator from the last episode of the previous season.  Trish realizes that she now has powers and beings to train.

While Trish is training, Jessica is ignoring her calls and continuing to work for Alias.  Through her cases, she eventually crosses paths with Trish as both starts working the same case individually.

This pretty much sums up the first few episodes of the show, which starts off slowly, like most of the Netflix series do in my opinion. After Trish and Jessica start working together the show picks a lot more and we get to see how Trish thinks and works versus the way Jessica does things.  It becomes very apparent that Trish is not the detective that Jessica is and still wet behind the ears when it comes to crime fighting.

The two do not see eye to eye while investigating Salinger, the main antagonist this season, and both go their separate ways to try to catch him.  Salinger does not possess any sort of powers, but is practically a genius and uses his smarts to out with both Trish and Jessica.  Salinger is a serial killer who “needs” to know how Jessica and Trish found out about his secret as he is very meticulous in his methods and leaves no evidence of his deeds.  It is this “need to know” attitude that eventually helps bring him to his demise.

During this cat and mouse game, Salinger figures out  Trish’s real identity and kills her mother. Trish goes off the deep end and believes that justice can only be served if she kills the man responsible for her mothers’ death. Jessica disagrees and tries to tell Trish it won’t bring back her mother or even make her feel any better. Trish disagrees and thus pits Jessica against her.

The emotional wreck of the two women in this season is what really brings the show together. Jessica has tried her entire life to protect Trish and even does some questionable things to make sure Trish stays safe and pure.  Trish her entire life has wanted powers like Jessica and when she gets them ends up abusing them and using them the wrong way.  Everything Jessica strived to preserve and protect in Trish becomes lost and Jessica must now make the choice to stop and end Trish.

It isn’t until Trish is stopped and interrogated by police that she finally realizes she has become the “bad guy” but it’s too late and she is sent off to The Raft.

It’s sad to see how Trish fell so hard from grace when all she wanted to do was good. She is literally the example (crossing universes here) of the Joker’s iconic line in “The Killing Joke” which is “All it takes is one bad day.” While on the other side of the coin, Jessica finally realizes she is a hero and must continue being one because giving up isn’t an option.

Jessica Jones is the best of the Netflix/Marvel shows and it’s because she is just doing her job and it’s the people she runs into that makes the series.  It is never about a villain she must take down because of a personal vendetta or because they are “known” criminals. The villains in the Jessica Jones story are equal parts of character development and not only does the viewer watch the protagonists grow but also the antagonists.

Now that all the Marvel shows on Netflix are canceled, will this actually be the end of them all? I guess fans will need to wait a few years to see if Disney+ decides to pick them up and continue the story of these Defenders. I know I got my fingers crossed.  What are your thoughts on this final season of Jessica Jones? Do you think Disney will continue the series? Let us know over on Facebook.
