Last night during half time of the New York Jets and New England Patriots game, the new Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker trailer dropped. Immediately after the drop, tickets for the final movie in the Skywalker saga went on sale.

After seeing the new trailer, it raises more questions than answers (as it should) and turns up the anticipation for the upcoming film. So lets break down some of the more important scenes in this trailer.

Let’s start with Rey. Most of her scenes in the trailer show her in some sort of training session. She looks to be on Endor(?) training as she drops/kicks a helmet that closely resembles the helmet from the speeder bike chase in Return of the Jedi. She immediately then stops a laser from what appears to be a training droid.

What isn’t in the trailer though, is what is even more interesting. During the previous trailer, a point was made to show Rey in dark rodes and wielding a bo staff looking lightsaber. This new trailer has zero references to that. This makes me think that the Sith Rey is more of a dream or undercover rues that will take place in the movie and be insignificant to the overall story.

This new trailer features voiceovers from most of the main cast. The two most notable ones are Finn and Emporer Palpatine. Finn talks about how the “Force bought them together” with Palpatine stating that “Your coming together is your undoing”. My theory is that Finn is talking about the group as a whole while Palpatine is talking solely about Rey and Ren. This means the two will end up joining forces (no pun intended).

The most epic scene of the trailer is with Rey and Kylo Ren in an all-white room. The two appear to be smashing some statue, machine, etc. that has some resemblance to Darth Vader(?). I have rewound and rewatched this scene multiple times, but can not 100% certify that is what it is. The statue-esque thing looks to be too short to actually be Vader and is too blurry to make out its true form. This could be the pivotal scene where the two finally come together.

The other big scene is C3PO’s good-bye. The trailer shows that C3PO is sacrificing himself and taking one last look at his friends. This could easily be the scene where he is being prepped to go dark in order to help the resistance for whatever reason. Since this is the last Star Wars film, this could easily be C3PO’s final moments. If it was though, I don’t think it would be included in this trailer.

Lastly, the emotional shot of Rey near the end of the trailer wielding the blue lightsaber (IMO) is most likely where she realizes who she is or what she needs to do. She has come to some sort of realization and is now ready to go into the final battle. This could coincide with Luke Skywalker’s voice-over about “confronting fear is the destiny of a Jedi.” On the other hand, while the scene is shown, the voice over then states the “Force is with you.” What side of the Force though? Could this be her turning point to the Dark Side? Probably not, but still fun to think about.

There is a lot more to unpack in this trailer but those were what we think are the biggest moments. What are your thoughts on the newest trailer? What are some of your theories about the next Star Wars film? let us know over on Facebook or Twitter.
