Nintendo has officially announced the highly anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2, set to launch on June 5th, 2025. Starting April 9th, eager fans can pre-order the system, ensuring they’ll be among the first to get their hands on the next-gen console. The Nintendo Switch 2 introduces cutting-edge hardware, a redesigned dock, and a variety of exciting accessories, including new GameCube controllers. And let’s not forget the impressive lineup of game titles that will launch alongside the system—Mario Kart World being one of the most exciting.

The Power of the Switch 2

The Nintendo Switch 2 is already turning heads with its updated hardware, enhanced graphics, and 120 FPS performance. For many gamers, these upgrades alone are enough to make them want to buy the system on day one—and I’m right there with them. Bravely Default is a must-have for RPG fans, and the inclusion of both Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Breath of the Wild on release day is a significant draw. On top of that, players can carry over their save data from the original Nintendo Switch, which adds incredible value for anyone who’s already invested in the system.

The cherry on top? The Zelda Notes add-on for the Nintendo Switch app enhances the Zelda experience in unexpected ways. With all these perks, it’s hard not to feel the excitement building for the Switch 2.

A Few Concerns

That said, not everything about the Nintendo Switch 2 is flawless. One central sticking point is the price. At $300, the new system’s price feels a bit steep, especially considering that the original Nintendo Switch debuted at $299. What’s more, game prices have also risen. For example, Mario Kart World will launch at $80, a significant jump from the typical $60 price tag most Nintendo Switch games carry.

If these higher price points become the new norm for Nintendo consoles and games, it could alienate some of the loyal fans who have always relied on Nintendo for affordable, family-friendly gaming options. Nintendo has built its reputation on offering great experiences at a price that’s accessible to everyone, and many wonder whether the Switch 2 will maintain that legacy.

Final Thoughts: Worth the Investment?

Despite the price hike, Nintendo has an impressive array of games lined up for the Switch 2, and I’m excited to dive into the new experiences it promises. Pre-ordering mine on April 9th is already a done deal—there’s no way I’m missing out on the next chapter of Nintendo’s gaming revolution.
