We are just days away from the highly anticipated release of Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster on Playstation and Nintendo Switch. The collection of the first six Final Fantasy games, originally released on Nintendo Entertainment System and/or the Super Nintendo Entertainment System, is already available on PC through Steam.

The Nintendo Switch and Playstation release will include some new features not available on the PC version, such as the ability for players to change the game’s font, which was a common complaint from fans. The new configuration menu allows players to adjust in-game currency, XP gained from battles, toggle random battles on and off, and in some cases, adjust Ability Point settings. The new feature can help players progress through the game at their desired pace.

Final Fantasy III will be released in its original 2D form for the first time, rather than its 3D remake for the Nintendo DS. Players can now see the sprites as they were originally designed, with the job cosmetics applied as the sprites change jobs per the players’ choice.

While the collection has everything fans want, the price tag of around $75 may be a challenge for some, especially considering the games have been previously released on older systems. However, it is important to note that the price breaks down to about $12.50 per game, which is a reasonable cost for fans who want to play these nostalgic games on newer and more convenient systems.

Ultimately, fans who want the collection will likely purchase it, while others may choose to play on older systems. Although the games do not offer new content, it is exciting to see Square Enix continue to provide fans with access to older titles on newer systems. If you’re a fan of the series, the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster release is definitely something to look forward to, set for release on April 19, 2023.
