DC apparently does not have the same problems with their animated and small screen programming as it does with its big-budget films, and TITANS season 1 proved that. It was arguably the best first season of any superhero show ever. Like all first seasons of a show it’s all about character introductions.

The first season introduced each of the TITANS in a different way and gave viewers a look at how their paths cross. While some of these were al little cheesy (Amnesia really??!!) others were great (Gar with Doom Patrol WHAT!). With all the character-building they needed to do there wasn’t much in the way of the team working together and fighting baddies. The entire season was all a lead up to a final fight with Trigon. A battle that wouldn’t happen and would leave viewers on a cliff hanger until season 2.

Well now Season 2 is here and I am ready for the big boss fight!

***SPOILERS for TITANS SEASON 2 AHEAD***

The first two episodes are available to watch now and pick up right where season 1 ended. The TITANS are trying to rescue Raven from her father, Trigon. If you are like me, you have been waiting for Dick, Gar, Star Fire, and Raven to do battle together against the big bad since he was introduced in the series. I was on the edge of my seat waiting for the action to begin, but, alas it never happened. The main “fight” scene (I say fight really lightly) took maybe 15 seconds and was Raven confronting her father and then walking out of a cloud of smoke. Could that really be it? It was for the first episode.

It was a huge let down that there was no huge choreographed fight scene between the TITANS and Trigon. It would have been an awesome opening episode if we got to see the TITANS finally working together in battle, even clumsily. The closest we get to that is the team beating the hell out of Gar while they were mind-controlled by Trigon. It isn’t even a fight, the team is just simply stomping on the poor, relatively defenseless, Beast Boy. Since we really don’t know what happened to Trigon, there is a chance he may return in a later season or possibly later this season and maybe at that time we will get a great fight scene with a better, more practiced, TITANS team.

While episode one was lackluster at best, episode 2 got me pumped up again. The show introduced an older looking Slade Wilson/Death Stroke and his daughter Rose. It became clear early on that latter was running from someone or something and has had some sort of training in fighting. While watching the news Dick sees the young Rose fleeing from the police and holding her own to make her getaway. He leaves TITANS tower and finds the young lass before the men in blue do and he takes her back to the tower to help her.

At the end of the episode, Rose is confirmed to be Rose Wilson by Jason Todd and Gar who ran her fingerprints through the bat computer.

The second episode also introduces Doctor Light, who has escaped from prison and for some reason has started attacking the TITANS. Not much is known about Doctor Lights’ back story in this universe yet, but he definitely has a history with the TITANS. Dove and Dick are all attacked by the convict at separate times during the episode and make plans to meet at TITANS tower to figure out next steps.

It is great to get to see Death Stroke early in the season. He is a big part of the TITANS history and could be a great addition as an overarching villain from season to season. In my opinion, Death Stroke is one of the more in-depth characters in the DC Universe and could bring a lot of great action sequences to this show.

This season has a lot of potential, and I have a good feeling it will be better than the first. My only hope is that DC Universe keeps doing what they are doing with TITANS and Doom Patrol and not drop the ball. TITANS is by far my favorite superhero show on television and I am in for the long game unless it starts going down the road of the WB style shows. So I say to DC Universe, Keep up the good work and I can’t wait to to see episode 3 which drops this Friday.
