We know that not everyone reads every comic, so I created this column to catch you guys up on some of the comics you didn’t (or couldn’t) read or would like to just keep up with the characters I follow. Fair warning: These are not Sparknotes! You’ll find my opinions on things that happened in each issue as well. Feel free to leave feedback in the comments; we look forward to hearing your thoughts.
Detective Comics #992
Deface the Face (Part 5)
Batman and Harvey Dent a.k.a Two-Face have partnered up to take down the Kobra gang. Batman urges Harvey not to kill and he obliges even though he thinks taking them down would be easier if Batman had let him. After Batman and Harvey succeed, we learn that Batwoman, Signal, and other heroes along with Two-Face’s henchmen(?) the fireflies helped to take down the gang across the rest of Gotham.
This issue had plenty of action and banter between Batman and Two-Face and was an okay read. I am happy the storyline is pretty much over and look forward to hopefully a better Detective Comics storyline in the next issue.
Fantastic Four #3
Family Reunion
The first family of Marvel Comics, the Fantastic 4, are greeted by other heroes in the universe like Black Panther, Spider-man, and of course, the Human Torch and Thing. Not long after hugs are given and embodiment/entity/Griever attacks and the heroes spring to action. Reed Richards explains they’ve seen others like her kind and they are difficult to bring down. This one in particular killed Molecule man. Reed Richard devises a plan to smash their ships to leave to way off of the planet they are on thus also causing the deity to not be able to leave. The diety sees this and bounces off the planet.
Boo. Just boo. I liked the first 2 issues of this comic but this one was just lackluster. We will see what happens but this was not the best read.
Titans #29
Marooned (Part 1)
The Titans crash land on a planet in the middle of nowhere, following the events of the Aquaman crossover and are still without Nightwing. They attempt to repair the homing beacon with no success. Miss Martian decides it’s a good idea to fly into space to try and figure out where they are, based on the constellations and stars that are nearby, even though she is hurt from the crash. She ultimately flies up and fails, falling back down to the ground. Beast boy and Raven go looking for the fallen Titan. During this time, they split up and Beast Boy goes full Beast Mode. Miss Martian and Raven make is back to the ship and Steel and Donna Troy successfully get a rescue beacon working. Beast Boy is still roaming the planet by the end of the issue.
Since this is a new jump on point, it’s going to be good to see how the failing Titans work together to get back to Earth. Without Nightwing, they are currently lacking a leader among them with Donna Troy trying her best to take the helm. The storyline has promise, as long as they don’t spend too much time on this crazy planet. The next issue though looks to have them take on some giant flying creature. Hopefully, it contains something or leads them to a way that they can leave. Being Part 1 I doubt it.
