Buffy The Vampire Slayer #1

Buffy is already a vampire slayer and meets Xander and Willow while killing a vampire that tried to attack them.  The next day she goes to school and checks in with her “watcher” Giles. While there Xander and Willow show up to thank Buffy again for saving their butts.  Giles hears this and lectures Buffy on how she needs to be more secretive when slaying.  Later on that, night she is attacked by a vampire she is unable to kill because of a pendant he is wearing.  Buffy makes a quick sketch of it and shows it to Giles so he can research and get more information on it.  The vampire goes back to Anya, the person he bought the pendant from, so he can get more for the rest of his vampire buddies.  Anya doesn’t sell him any more and instead kills him with some face melting poison.

Anya starts to close the store and a vampire woman walks in demanding that Anya help her out.

This was a decent start in the Buffy series, we don’t get to see her training as she appears to already be well adapted to fighting vampires.  We will get to see the relationship between her, Xander, and Willow develope as they seem to have just met in this story. All in all, it has potential so far.

Batman #63

Batman is still having nightmares and this issue is no exception.  John Constantine makes an appearance and is around every corner Bruce Wayne or Batman turn.  Constantine warns Batman that Selina will be dead in a few short days.  Batman states he will protect her and writes John’s prediction off.  After a bunch of mushy kissy moments the story ends with catwoman being shot by a sniper and Batman states maybe is KGBeast again like what happened to Dick Grayson.  Batman realizes at the end that he is stuck in some sort of Nightmare.

This issue was a bit too mushy and boring.  The appearance of Constantine and the killing of Catwoman was cool, but not enough to keep interest.  I think that once this arc is over none of this really happened as they were all inside Bats’ head and therefore feels like filler.

Teen Titans #26

Robin leads the Teen Titans into the Bat Cave to have Roundhouse gain access to Batmans information.  While Roundhouse is working the other Teen Titans are tasked with being the lookout for him.  Robin tells the group he will be back and disappears into Wayne Manor.  While walking through the halls he encounters Alfred, who was supposed to be out for tea, and the two discuss Damian’s behavior, an item he is trying to steal, and how Alfred protects Jason Todd as he does anyone who dons the Robin suit.  Alfred lets Robin go without a fight, but instead, with parting words that he is acting like Ra’s Al Ghul.  Robin goes through a door and is caught by Red Arrow who is talking to Red Hood.  Red Arrow tells Robin that they were in this together and she doesn’t appreciate the lack of information Damian isn’t sharing.  Damian shows Red Arrow a box he stole and that they will find out who killed Lady Vic and tried to blow them up.

I like that Damian is kinda a dick.  He doesn’t let anyone in on his plans until he is pretty much forced to and that adds a level of mystery to the Teen Titans that keep me coming back.  This issue also bought the team back to the main story that I have been waiting to get to.  So as long as they keep with the main story I am sure future issues will be just as good as this one.

Man Without Fear #4

Matt is laying in his bed feigning sleep as Wilson Fisk, the Mayor, hovers over him.  Wilson goes on about himself thinking that Matt is asleep.  Matt thinks back to a time when Kingpin nearly killed him and told him (Matt) that is just a pawn.  Matt increasingly gets angry about the flashback and Wilson being in his room.  After some time, Wilson states he could easily kill Matt in his sleep right at that second.  Matt awakes and tells him to do it, but Matt is scared.

This is the next to last issue of Man without Fear and then the mini-series ends making way for Daredevil #1 full series.  Seeing Matt get angry again is telling that maybe there is still some fight left in him and I like that.  Since the next issue is the last one, it will help me decide if I am going to continue with the new Daredevil series coming out.
