The Overwatch Halloween Terror event finally kicked off yesterday after its release was up in the air for a few weeks. Hell, even we thought that it seemed to be all but canceled (see our write up here). To our and many fans delight we get to play Junkenstein’s Revenge again this year.

While I enjoy the Junkenstein’s Revenge event, I was hoping a new event game would be released. Since the December time frame, last year included the Yeti Hunt and Mei’s Snowball fight, it would have been nice for Halloween to get an upgrade this year. There were teases/rumors of a possible new game on the Eichenwald map, but that appears to just that, an unfounded rumor. It is possible that Eichenwald got a map overlay for the event, but I have not yet played on Eichenwald in any other game modes.

This year the Halloween Terror event released some of the best skins to date. The Orisa and Tracer skins are by far the best in my opinion, but all of them are a-mei-zing. The eight new skins include:

  • Scorpion Widowmaker
  • Gorgon Lucio
  • Pharaoh Ana
  • Vampire Baptist
  • Inferno Junkrat
  • Warlock Ashe
  • Demon Orisa
  • Will-O-Wisp Tracer

This year Blizzard is releasing a free skin each week of the event during it’s “Weekly Challenge”. To earn the free skin, you need to win 9 times in any game mode. It doesn’t have to be the same game mode each time, so you can mix and match what you want to play. The week 1 skin is the Inferno Junkrat (Oct 15- 21), followed by Vampire Baptist (Oct 22 – 28), and lastly Demon Hunter Sombra (Oct 29 – Nov 4). If you are interested in getting these skins quickly and easily, the best method is to play Junkenstein’s Revenge on Normal. Each round takes about 10 minutes and is usually an easy win, therefore getting your skin in about an hour and a half. The event includes a plethora of sprays, voice lines, and more as well. There are way too many to list, but logging into the game and check the “What’s New” Section of the Hero Gallery will allow you to see and hear each one.

To get these cosmetic items players can either buy them with in-game currency or hope to receive them at random in the new Halloween Loot boxes by leveling up their character. The other option (that I do not recommend) is to buy a batch of loot boxes and hope you randomly pull the items you seek.

In the end, the Halloween Event is one I look forward to every year. It is probably my favorite event. It would be great to see Blizzard add a new game mode focusing on some of the newer characters but for now, I will enjoy Junkenstein’s Revenge again this year.

Hey Blizzard! Next year how about an Eichenwald candy-filled payload that needs to be delivered to the castle. Zomnics and the like from Junkenstein’s Revenge can come at the payload to stop it and at certain checkpoint areas, other villains like Reaper, Sombra, and/or Orisa could come out to prevent the payload from moving forward. At the end of the stage, Mercy could revive all of them for a final battle (4 on 4) before the payload reaches the final resting point.

What do you think of this year’s event? What type of game mode would you like to see next year? let us know over on Facebook or Twitter.
