It has been over a week since Nerd Caster has posted to the site and that’s because some of us were in South Korea.
After we landed, got our bearings straight, and our jetlag was over; we took to the streets to take in some of the sites in Seoul. There was no shortage of PC/Gaming cafe’s as we saw about 5 in a half-mile radius of where we were staying in the Guro Digital Complex area. Along with gaming cafe’s, there was no shortage of arcades either. Right on our block alone, there were two. The arcades were mostly filled with crane machines containing cute little plushies. Korea is all about “cuteness” as I will discuss later on. There weren’t many traditional cabinet-style games in them though. So no Street Fighter or Golden Axe to be played.
After checking out some of the arcades, we made our way over to an authentic Korean BBQ restaurant for dinner. The restaurant was open-aired but the tables and chairs were small for my American male body type. The food was delicious and nothing beats kim-chi, rice, and bulgogi (barbecued steak pieces). In fact, all the food during the trip was amazing and we mostly ate at little “hole in the wall” restaurants.
After taking in some Seoul sites in the Guro section of Seoul we made our way over to some of the famous Korean markets. There were a lot of food and merchandise vendors everywhere. If you took a normal flea market and food festival here in the states, put them together, and multiplied the vendors by 20 you might have a normal Korean market.
After our time in the Seoul area, we took the KTX (Bullet train) over to Busan. In Busan, we saw a lot of cute characters called Kakao. They are all over Busan. They can be seen on buses, warning signs, stickers, and cell phone cases. These little guys can be found everywhere.
Lastly, we went to Gamecheon Culture Villiage and got ran into some of our favorite Marvel friends. In a place called Kevin’s Shop, they sell phone accessories but also had statues of a Fat thor and Fat Iron-Man. Not sure what they were doing here, but it was fun to see some comic stuff while on the other side of the world.
That pretty much wraps up the major things we did in Korea. For more pictures of the trip head over to the Nerd Caster Instagram or Facebook page.
