Hubie Halloween premiered on 10/7/2020 on Netflix. The movie is a part of the Adam Sandler Netflix deal. It stars Adam Sandler as Hubie, and has a cast of characters to follow along with him. As of the writing if this article it sits as the #1 movie on Netflix.
This is another one of those Adam Sandler feel good classics based around the Halloween season. We see a guest appearance from Ben Stiller reprising his role all the way from Happy Gilmore. We also have the usual suspects in a Sandler film. Kevin James, and Rob Schneider and this time around Julie Bowen. Ray Liotta and Noah Shcnapp are also in the film.
The movie is a classic tell of a guy who never really went anywhere in life but is obsessed with Halloween. He still lives with his mom, is obsessed with the hot girl from high school, and just honestly tries to be a good citizen and neighbor. Even for all of his troubles Hubie is bullied non stop. That all changes for this Halloween. People start to vanish and there is a lot of mystery behind it.
Hubie assumes there is something supernatural going on while everyone else doesn’t want to listen to him. They just find him annoying because of his obsessions. However, while it is something crazy its really nothing supernatural.
This movie is funny but also adds horror, but us still mild enough for family fun. I’ve seen a lot of posts and reviews talking about how Hubie has a disability and Sandler has gone to far making fun of the disabled. At no point in time in the film did it ever say Hubie had any sort of disability. Sandler just chose to use that voice because of the character. He’s supposed to be annoying to the point people can’t stand him. I mean he does scare easy so I mean there’s that.
I feel like this film could go down as a Sandler classic. It has everything from his 90s heyday and even some of the stuff he used in the early 2000s. A lot of the humor in the film is clean humor. There’s an homage to Billy Madison with the O’doyle rules bit. I won’t spoil the film because it just released but go try to give it a chance. Is it the best film he’s released? No. However it is one of best he’s done in the last 10 years.
I would give Hubie Halloween a 7 out of 10. Its family friendly and just a good film for the Halloween season. Go check it out and enjoy!
