Girl on the 3rd Floor is a horror movie that was released in October of 2019. It stars C.M. Punk or Phil Brooks, Trieste Kelly Dunn and Sarah Brooks. I caught the movie on Netflix.
The movie is a horror film, but has a bit of a dramatic feel to it. C.M. Punk plays Don, who is trying to fix up a house for his wife and daughter. The house itself has a bit of history that he may or may not know about. The movie opens on him going into the house and starting to work on all the things that are wrong with it. He is basically remodeling it and getting it ready to move in.
The film has a good horror feel. It focuses on the story, and the characters and doesn’t get all over the place. It stays straight on path with the story giving you a little bit more each time something happens. I haven’t really seen C.M. Punk in a lot of acting roles, if he has been in any at all but he makes this genre his. He was the main character who had a shady past, who bought a house with his wife that was a brothel. Something had happened at this brothel and people were murdered and their bodies were never found. As the movie progresses you find this out more and more.
There is a bit of mystery as well. I did like that part, as Don (Punk) continues to work on the house you hear laughing and other noises as well as marbles rolling on the floor. There are all these things that he is seeing to make you think that he is going crazy or that the house is possessed. Again, the movie gives you a real late 70’s early 80’s horror feels.
It is more of a psychological thriller I guess with horror aspects. Punk doesn’t really seem to know what is going on until he wakes up and his dog has been brutally murdered. He assumes that Sarah, the girl he meets when he starts working on the home has broken in and done it. He becomes paranoid. However, as the story continues, he loses a friend named Milo who is killed by the house or at least the ghost of Sarah.
We don’t find out about the house attacking the tenants until Don’s wife Liz shows up and gets to see the past unfold in front of her eyes. She is taken back to what happened with the women and the men in the house and was told the full story. How the women were killed, and there was a child that was killed. These two haunted the house and were causing all the issues that Don was having.
Honestly, I would say that I enjoyed this movie. It was, in other words, a bit messed up, but all in all a good horror film. It went away from the hack and slash stuff to being just a good movie. It does feel a bit dated like I said you feel like it was made with the 70’s or 80’s in mind. However, that doesn’t take away from the movie at all. Could it have been more detailed? I mean maybe, but it would have taken away the fear factor of it. Again, these types of movies are hit and miss, you either love them or hate them. They don’t have a super huge budget and could potentially spawn sequels or spinoffs.
I would rate this movie a 7 out of 10.
