Something strange is coming back to the neighborhood. The 10-year-old XBOX 360/PS3 Ghostbusters game is being remastered and re-released for the newer PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Fans of the original game can suit up again with updated graphics, load times, etc. Newer fans don’t have to spend time finding a PS3, Xbox 360, and/or a copy of the game, as I did. Playing the game does feel like we are on the brink of a Ghostbusters Resurgence.
With the new movie due out sometime next year, it makes sense to release a newer copy of the game on newer systems to get people back into the Ghostbusters vibe and to try and get newer fans on board. The Ghostbusters started in the 1980s from the minds of Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis (R.I.P) with Ghostbusters released in 1984 and the second movie released in 1989. It wasn’t until the female lead cast of Ghostbuster in 2016 that Ghostbusters name would see any screen time or show up on anyone’s radar. While the latest installment has very mixed reviews, it did do at least one thing right. It caused an uproar to bring back the OG team.
When the remaster version of Ghostbusters: The Video Game drops everyone can again get the feels for Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spangler, and Winston Zeddemore. The game was also written by Dan Akroyd and Harold Ramis, so it feels like the game could actually be a follow up to Ghostbusters 2. Even those who do not agree with my last statement, usually do agree that it does fit inside the lore very well.
With E3 approaching, high hopes are raised that fans will get a release date to when they can again strap on a proton pack and fire up their PKE readers and join the Ghostbusters to take down the Grey Lady and Stay Puft Marshmellow man once again. For those who can’t wait, fire up the PS3 or Xbobx 360 once again (again, as I did) because the game does hold up pretty well and still feels good and fun to play.
