Animal Adventures began with the “Dungeons and Doggies” Kickstarter campaign. They take D&D to new heights by introducing dog characters to interact with current campaigns or starting a new campaign with all doggie characters. The website includes the rules of the game, miniatures, maps, and adventures. So getting started is as easy as just going to the website.
It’s evident that the makers of the game put a lot of time and effort into this project and state they plan to expand the project with other animals. The wait for there next set is upon us, and they are releasing “Cats and Catacombs“. The new project includes different cat breeds taking up your favorite classes in your Table Top Role Playing Games (TTRPG). Much like Dungeons and Doggies, the set has miniatures to paint and can join your current campaign. On the flip side, you can start a campaign of your own with a full kitty cat (or doggy) party.
The ruleset for Cats and Catacombs are compatible with the rules of Dungeons and Doggies as well. The rules are based on the Fifth Edition ruleset and therefore able to be combined with an already started campaign using said ruleset. The hardest part of playing will be deciding to be a cat or a dog.
The successful campaigns for Dungeons and Doggies ended on July 31st, 2018 and Cats and Catacombs finished May 1st, 2019. Both games can currently be found on Steamforged. Going forward, the team behind both games are said to be releasing more breeds of cat and dog miniatures as well as more campaigns. They have also planned to create more campaigns with other animal types.
The addition of dogs and cats RPG is a great way for first time TTRPG players to get accustomed to playing. The campaigns could be played in a more relaxed pace and since the game is new to most players would keep everyone on the same page at the start of a campaign. So go forward my fellow TTRPG friends and adventure as a pretty kitty or a dangerous doggy.
