Most people don’t like change, but the Disney Parks seem to embrace it. A lot of fans are upset about the upcoming changes to Walt Disney World (WDW) Resort in Orlando, FL. any current areas, attractions, and dining locations in WDW are going away to make room for new and exciting stuff.
One of the biggest new additions coming to the parks is Galaxy’s Edge, a new Star Wars land in Hollywood Studios (DHS). The new area will take up approximately half the park. To make room for this giant expansion, regular guests and cast members alike had to say goodbye to the backlot area of DHS. The area that once housed the Streets of America, Lights, Motors, Action as well as the Phineas and Ferb Meet and Greet are now only memories to the lucky people who were able to visit them previously.
Galaxy’s Edge isn’t the only area that created change for the host park. The iconic Chinese Theater is now also being repurposed to house the new Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway. The theater used to house the beloved Great Movie Ride. Many enjoyed the Great Movie Ride and the attraction garnered a cult following.
Hollywood Studios isn’t the only park to get some changes. Epcot has a few planned major updates as well. The entire area once known as Innovations West is due to be demolished. Club Cool and the Epcot Character Meet and Greet are about to be a thing of the past unless Disney decides to move them to another location. Innovations West takes up a pretty big area in Future World and what will be taking over the area is still in development. Rumors have circulated that a new eatery, merchandise location, and possible attraction may be what’s coming to this space.
Magic Kingdom has seen many changes over the last few years and construction is currently underway for the new Tron attraction. To make way for it, the Tomorrowland Speedway had to shorten its track and the Walt Disney World Railroad had to cease operations temporarily. The Railroad is said to be returning once construction is completed in that area. Other than the speedway shortening its track, at least nothing had to be removed to make way for this new attraction.
Changes are not only coming to the parks, but also to the resorts as well. Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Villas is set to undergo renovations to widen the beloved counter-service eatery, Beaches and Cream to allow more seating for guests. When it reopens, it may receive a new name and some possible menu additions and changes.
Walt Disney said that his parks are not museums and should always be changing to give guests new experiences. It’s no doubt people will miss what was once there but hopefully, the new things that are coming will be even better than what was originally there. Treasure those memories of the old but look forward to making a few more with the new.
