Well, Sony finally made it official. The Playstation 5 is real and will be here before we know it. In a little over a year, the PS4’s successor, officially and aptly named, Playstation 5 (PS5) will be available for purchase. No official date is announced only that it will be released during the holiday season of 2020.
The new system has some new and innovative features. The upcoming gaming controllers, which are yet to be named (uh, Dualshock 5 is my guess), will have “adaptive triggers” that are designed to adapt to different weapons, like a bow and arrow or a gun. According to Wired, the controllers have a more tactile feel when using them.
Another new feature is an improved 3D lighting feature called Ray-Tracing. This new feature will be done on a hardware/GPU level versus being software-based. The internals is not only upgraded to make the games look pretty, but the new next-generation system will include a solid-state drive as well. The new drive is reported to “save crucial space” but not sure if this means physically in the unit, or for storage capacity.
Games for the Playstation 5 will now be on 100GB optical discs. The optical drive that will read these discs can also be used as a 4K Blu-Ray player. With games being on a 100GB disc, Sony announced that the installation of games can and will be customizable. If a player only wants the multiplayer features of a game, they will have an option to solely installing this part of the game rather than the entire game itself. This new installation feature will help players get into the game quicker avoiding the full installation until a later time. All that being said, currently, there are no games confirmed for the system.
