Not everyone has time to read all the comics and some miss an issue or two.  This quick comic review is to help you, the reader, catch up on comics or get an idea of what is going on.  Hopefully this inspires to go out and start following a comic series to helps you catch up on one you may have been missing.

Batman #64

The Justice League is fighting a number of Amazo robots and defeats them pretty quickly.  Batman high tails it out of there and over to Central City after the fight. In Central City, the Flash and Batman arrive a little too late and see that the Flash Museum was attacked.  Batman tells Flash he knew about the attack and that it was caused by Gotham Girl.

Batman #64, Flash #64 and both #65’s will be a crossover even with Flash and Batman.  DC decided to interrupt the storyline of Batman for this crap.  I am not too big on the Flash and would much rather the Batman storyline continue.  That being said, the issue isn’t really worth much.  Since its the first in this 4 part series, there is not much information given.  So I guess stay tuned for Flash #64 (or skip ahead to my review of that.

DareDevil #1

DareDevil takes to the streets after weeks of being in the hospital from being hit by a truck.  He starts craving the violence and stops a small breaking and entering crime.  While fighting off the 3 intruders, he is obviously out of practice and finesse.  He does succeed to bring them down but is unable to save one of them from the fire.  Two of the perpetrators end up in jail and the one that got stuck in the blaze ends up dying.  Mayor Fisk sees this on the TV and gets pissed that the devil of hells kitchen is back.

I have been looking forward to the new run of DareDevil and this issue didn’t disappoint. The action, the flashbacks, etc. were all well done. The writing, however, could have been a little better.  There are other Marvel comics currently running with better writing/dialogue, but the story in DareDevil looks to be going in a great direction.

Detective Comics #998

Batman is still on the hunt for whoever is trying to take out the people he loves. He visits Hugo Strange and is comes up empty as he realizes quickly Strange has nothing to do with what is going on. Batman then travels to talk to Jason Blood and puts on the Hellbat suit. He has a quick throw down with Blood and frees him from his Demon.  After Batman goes to see Silas Stone to warn him about what’s been going on with the attacks.  During this time Silas uses Batman’s grappling hook against him and transforms into a weird looking Batman.

This Mythology storyline is just weird.  It’s getting ridiculous too, the last page of this issue is just stupid.

Flash #64

Flash and Batman examine the evidence from the Flash Museum attack by Gotham Girl and learn that she is in the Caribbean.  The two head to an island that the evidence points too and find a large ominous castle.  As they investigate they find tubes of venom and pods that people have been kept in. Gotham Girl comes crashing in and a small altercation ensues as Gotham Girl tells Batman how he is a disappointment for leaving her and her brother.

I said before that Flash is not a comic I read or a hero I really care about.  That being said though, this issue was really good.  The detective work in it, is what Detective Comics should be.

Captain Marvel #2

Captain Marvel is in the “dome” along with some other superhero woman. Carol gets caught up to speed and then Metal Men attack the hideoout she is in.  Carol takes the lead and ends up getting captured.  She-Hulk shows up and tries to save Carol, but as the story closes she is drained of her power for some reason.

The issue pretty much got Carol up to speed on whats going on inside this parralel universe and it ends with them still fighting the metal men. It seems like a lot of setup work.

Titans #34

The Titans are on Unearth and seem to be losing pretty badly in the opening of the issue.  Miss Martian uses the last of her energy to get them into a better position and they are able to move forward. Kyle and Steel are stuck in “The Red” restraints and talking with Mother Blood. Hinton, the creator of Unearth learns that what is going on is terrible and tries to change the story/world he created.  Upon defying Mother Blood, one of his own creations stabs him.

With the Titan series ending soon, I don’t see them winning in this world and see the story being cleaned up in a Justice League comic or something.  Only time will tell, this storyline though is absolutely terrible.

Winter Soldier #3

Bucky and RJ head out to help one of Bucky’s old friends. The two end up fighting with “dot man” and if not for RJ Bucky may have been killed.  After the two are victorius and head home, RJs “dad” shows up.

The issue was ok.  It went into depth on how much Bucky wants to help this kid, and how the kid came through for him. In the end, he might be Bucky’s new sidekick or stab him in the back.  Either way, it will be interesting.

Teen Titans #27

Crush is punching holes in the wall while Roundhouse and Kid Flash have a dinner date.  Red Arrow tries to help Crush through her issues and shows her the roof where she hangs out to get her mind right.  In Robin’s room, Djinn heals Damian’s wounds from his battle with Red Robin, and in doing so Damian learns about Djinn’s past.

This is was great, got to see a lot of the human side of the Teen Titans.  In the end, we get a message stating that Deathstroke is on the loose, so that can only mean this story is going to get better.

Nightwing #57

Ric and Bea are officially an item now.  The two work together to get the councilman to fund the homeless shelter and fail.  Ric then heads to see Detective Sapienza about getting his cab back and accepts helping “The Nightwings”.  At the end of the issue, the councilman who denied the funding request is attacked by a woman whose clothes are the Jokers colors.  The crazy woman straps a bomb on the councilman and sends him into a fancy dinner.

Finally, it appears that Nightwing may come back and we get a crazy new villain.  Looking forward to seeing where this goes and hoping that in the next few issues we get to see the old school Dick Grayson in his Nightwing getup.  All in all a good issue.

Black Widow #2

Black Widow is continuing her investigation into N.R.P (No Restraints Play), and comes across a young girl who was torched by them.  The girl gives Natasha some details and leads Natasha to a yacht full baddies.  As she is doing recon, she gets hit from behind by Madam Masque.

This is a good detective comic so far, and with the focus on the dark web and illegal sites, it feels relevant and refreshing from repeat storylines.

Batman #65

As this 4 part story continues, Gotham Girl heads to Central City with Flash on her heels. Batman catches up using the Batwing, just in time to see Gotham Girl inject Venom Serum into her neck. She knows it might kill her but she does it anyway.

The one thing I am getting from this 4 part series is that I much prefer these shorter storylines. I am beginning to think that maybe each comic story should be 4 issues long, or at the most maybe 8.  So yeah, I’m enjoying see how this turns out and to see what happens with Flash and Batman’s relationship.
