As we get closer to The Electronic Entertainment Expo, known to fans as E3, Square Enix‘s Final Fantasy VII speculations and rumors begin to swirl yet again. Fans of the signature game have been waiting years for a remake to see the light of day. Square Enix has a long history with this remake and letting its fans down, or keeping them in the dark completely for months on end. It appears SquareEnix was a little too quick to make the announcement of the remake. The company maybe should have held back and waited until it was further along in the development stage. That is if this title is even going to be remade.
Square Enix and Tetsuya Nomura (Director for Kingdom Hearts 3 and Final Fantasy VII) announced back in January, around the release of Kingdom Hearts 3, that the company will be working hard on other titles. Many believe that since Kingdom Hearts 3 is done Tetsuya Nomura and Square Enix can now shift their focus solely on the much-anticipated remake.
As stated earlier though, the rumors surrounding this long-awaited game have started surfacing again all because SquareEnix hinted that fans will get some BIG news at the E3 event and announced a concert dedicated to the Final Fantasy VII game.
The concert is to take place on June 9th, which is a couple of days before the E3 event starts on June 11th. The show is scheduled to take place in the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. The symphony will showcase a 100 piece orchestra playing songs from Nobou Uematu’s Final Fantasy VII’s classic catalog. Similar to the Distant Worlds concerts, the orchestra will be accompanied by a large projection screen showing scenes from the iconic game while the orchestras playing.
It appears with all the “little” hints and now the announcement of a concert dedicated to the remake, fans are getting excited and believe the “BIG” news Square Enix is going to unveil will be about this game. The rumors hold some strong evidence that this could actually happen, so let’s recap the bread crumbs SquareEnix has laid out.
- January it was announced they would be working hard on other titles (after the KH3 release)
- Tetsuya Nomura can now focus on Final Fantasy VII or other games
- A concert dedicated to Final Fantasy VII was announced
- The concert will take place in L.A.
- Will take place in the same city as E3
- Is scheduled days before E3
While the circumstantial evidence looks good, I am not holding my breath. In fact, I would much prefer a Final Fantasy VI remake complete with CGI and voice acting.
If interested in attending the concert, tickets start around $80 and more information can be found here.
